You Can Take A Century-Old Carousel Ride For Just 5 Cents In Niagara
We're getting serious "Mary Poppins" vibes.
It’s time to start searching the couch cushions for nickels, everyone. An antique hand-carved carousel near Toronto is putting a whole new spin on fun and rides are just 5 cents apiece. So, if you’re looking for adorable spring date ideas that will make you feel like a kid again, you need to pay Lakeside Park Carousel a visit.
The ride, which is located roughly two hours from the 6ix in St. Catherines, Ontario, is over 100 years old.
But don’t worry, plenty of care and upkeep means this carousel keeps on spinning safely.
And if you want a nostalgia overload, this definitely is the place to get it.
The ride features four chariots and 68 hand-carved animals from lions to horses, camels, giraffes, and more.
And, of course, you can hear that vintage circus music playing in the background too.
Originally, the ride was part of a Scarborough amusement park but it was relocated to its current home back in 1921.
Set to re-open for the spring season in May 2020, you’re not going to want to pass this up.
After all, at only a nickel a ride you’re sure to get your money's worth and more.
Hello, day trip!
The LPC is only one of nine hand-carved carousels still operating in all of Canada.
It’s kind of impressive that the ride still holds up. Even more impressive is the actual horse-hair tails that remain intact on the wooden horses.
While most of the animals are originals, one of the two lions were actually stolen and had to be replaced by the carousel caretakers in 2004.
The ride is operational on weekends and holidays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. from May until mid-September.
From that point until October, the carousel is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
If you think this is the perfect spot to hang out, you can even grab a season pass for just $20.40.
Now you can live out that iconic horse race scene from Mary Poppins. Well, almost, anyway.
