Sometimes socializing with people can be tiring. This is why we have dogs. While a lot of our articles are about what to do with your friends/family/significant other in the city, we're also here to remind you that your pet needs a little downtown loving too.

In the mood for a Marley & Me style date? Our city is just as dog-friendly as it is human.

Here are 10 places to take your dog in Ottawa.

1. Bruce Pit // 175 Cedarview Road

Off the leash. Bruce Pit is one of Ottawa's two Greenbelt Off-Leash dog zones. It's a forest area full of pathways where your dog can roam free and make new friends. If you're especially looking for your dog to become more social, it's known to be busier on weekends - you can always find hundreds of happy dogs running around and having fun.

2. Conroy Pit // 3316 Conroy Road

Just like Bruce Pit, Conroy Pit is also owned by the NCC. It's a large, fenced off area where dogs can roam leash-free in between grassy, sandy, and and woody areas. Just like Bruce Pit, it can also get quite busy with lots of dogs and their owners coming in to make friends and spend time together - so if you're looking for an alternative in a another area of the city, this one's for you.

3. The Doggin' It Cafe // 1071 Bank Street

Ottawa's first pet-friendly cafe. While you can enjoy a coffee and catch up on work with the cafe's free wifi, the cafe has plenty of room for your dog to walk around and play, or to enjoy a snack from their treat menu. A great place for both you and your dog to relax.

4. Gatineau Park // 33 Scott Road

A year-round favourite. With Fall Rhapsody starting soon, what better way to enjoy the changing of the seasons than taking a hike with your dog around the park? While they do have to be on leash, it's still a great way to get in some exercise and fresh air for both of you.

5. Sugarbush Trail // Gatineau Visitor Centre, Chelsea

This winter-friendly trail is perfect to take your pet to during the colder months. It's also universally accessible, and its location makes it a great place to stop by after touring the adorable Chelsea area.

6. Lauriault Trail // Mackenzie King Estate

Dog photoshoot? Yes please. Lauriault is another year-round trail in the Gatineau area that you can bring your pet to for a day full of hiking and outdoor activities. It's especially popular during the summer and fall months, where pet owners get to take their dream photos with the scenic King estate serving as a background.

7. Major's Hill Park // Mackenzie Avenue

Another park perfect for photo-ops. Full of mini monuments and the most picturesque views of Ottawa, this park is just the place for you and your dog to relax after a long day. With it's ideal downtown location, it's a common spot for any urban dog owners in the city.

8. The Pampered Pet // 2446 Bank Street

Time for some TLC. Since your pet deserves the very best, a spa day is clearly in order. The Pampered Pet on Bank has a full range of services and grooming for both cats and dogs, and they also accept walk-ins. Treat yourself, but treat Fido too.

9. McNabb Park // 180 Percy Street

Pooltime. McNabb has off-leash hours during after-school time on weekdays, and it's home to one of Ottawa's few dog pools on weekends. Aside from being a community hang-out spot with a skatepark and play structures, it's another spot for downtown pet owners.
