If you’ve been dreaming of an idyllic Valentine’s getaway in February, you may not have pictured it at IKEA. However, IKEA Ottawa’s Valentine’s Day weekend has so many cute activities and free things to do, it might be more romantic than you think!

While a huge furniture shop is probably not the most dreamy location for your special February 14 meal, the Swedish superstore is going above-and-beyond to make sure that Ottawans on a budget have a wonderful weekend.

With everything from free professional photo portraits, scavenger hunts, face painting, in-store discounts, and even more, there’s going to be something exciting for the whole family.

The cheap and cheerful weekend kicks-off on Friday, February 14, which is Valentine’s Day.

For lovers not wanting to overspend, the iconic store has a special $29.99 dinner offer on, and guests can enjoy a three course meal for two people, including beer or wine!

Throughout the rest of the weekend, the Ottawa location is offering 10% discounts on select items for IKEA Family Members, so you can even nab some new plants and shelving units after your meal!

While many people only think of IKEA as a furniture store, the company explained to Narcity that many incredible love stories actually start with Swedish flatpack.

A communications rep from the Ottawa store even described their restaurant’s sunset view as "such a beautiful sight."

One day later, on February 15, the capital city location’s Family Weekend Festival will officially begin.

According to their website, activities will include the Awkward Family Photos Instagram contest, cardboard creations, scavenger hunting, “and more.”

Until the 16th, families will also be able to enjoy discounted food offers, as kids can eat totally free all weekend with the purchase of any adult meal.

To make the most out of the festival’s special offers and in-store discounts, all you have to do is sign up to be an IKEA Family Member, which is free to do here.

While IKEA’s bargain Valentine’s meal is available at participating locations nationwide, the Family Festival activities are only available in the capital city store.

Pre-registration for this event is not required. Simply show your Family membership card to get in.

For couples interested in a Swedish-style Valentine’s, tickets to the restaurant will be available as of Monday, January 20.

You'll need to purchase tickets in advance, as availability is limited.
