Snowshoeing is one of the few things that make going outside in the winter totally worth it. This ultra-Canadian activity allows you and your BFFs to get moving and take in some truly breathtaking snowy views. If you happen to live in the Ottawa/Gatineau area, you can take in a whole new kind of view this winter when you participate in the National Capital Commission’s Snowshoe Under The Stars event. This new event will take a group of brave adventurers on a late-night journey through the winter wonderland that is Gatineau Park. In addition to the snow-covered trees, you will be surrounded by a beautiful blanket of stars (weather permitting, of course) that is sure to have you in complete awe. The moderately easy hike will be led by a Friends of Gatineau Park nature interpreter, who will guide you through the park teaching you about local plants and animals. Your hike will conclude in the Sugar Bush Shelter where you can enjoy a delicious cup of hot chocolate by the cozy woodstove. Snowshoes are available to rent for $5, but you are more than welcome to bring your own equipment as well. And, of course, don’t forget to bundle up! This is a no-experience-necessary experience. The hike is only 3 kilometres long, with just a few slopes and hills to endure. Space, however, is limited so you will need to call or go online to register in advance.
