Good news on the “Toronto-singles-who-want-to-try-new-dating-apps” front: there are actually plenty of highly interesting dating apps that you probably haven’t tried out.

So if you’re a tiny bit bored with Bumble, or just want to mix things up in your dating life, give some of these apps a whirl. But be warned: some of these dating apps fall under the category of “honestly kinda strange.”

Anyway, here goes…

1. Sobrr

What It Is: You open up this app. You find single Torontonians. Some of them catch your eye, so you start sending each other messages and pics. But here’s the twist: after 24 hours, all your messages and pictures self-destruct. That’s unless both of you decide to “keep” the friendship beyond the 24 hour point.

Why Try It: Well, it lets you find people who you’d like to continue talking to for more than 24 hours. And everyone else you’ve spoken to? All that can be forgotten. Forever.

Available For: iPhone and Android

2. GetYou

What It Is: It’s a kinda clever idea, really. You’ll see the picture of some Toronto hottie on your phone screen. Then you’ll play a little guessing game:

“Let’s see if you can guess Alexandra’s all-time favourite food…”

“Is Timothy a pole dancer or a physician?”

“Does Sandra prefer dogs or cats?”

You get the gist. And other people will try to “get you” and guess stuff about you. And if you discover that you really “get” someone...well, maybe asking that Toronto single out for drinks would be a lovely idea.

Why Try It: Because now you can quickly find the Toronto singles who you somehow “get” -- based on nothing more than their pictures.

Available For: iPhone and Android

3. Teased

What It Is: “Like Tinder, with personality,” quipped one reviewer of this dating app. With Teased, you aren’t picking people you like based just on their looks. Instead, here’s how this will go down: you’ll see an image on your phone. But it might be a picturesque scene of a stormy day in a Toronto. Or something like that. And you’ll get to read a few bits of information about the person. Like how old they are. Where they went to university. What they like to do. Then you’ll decide if you want to meet up with this person.

Why Try It: Tired of going out with hot singles you found on Tinder who don’t really click with you? Teased lets you choose who to go out with based on more than just their looks.

Available For: iPhone

4. Cubefree

What It Is: While not technically a dating app, it can certainly be used for dating. So imagine this scenario: you’re at Jet Fuel Coffee Shop. Or Manic Coffee. Or some other cafe. You whip out your phone and open up Cubefree. There’s a good-looking individual who is also at this cafe. You invite him or her to join you at your table -- through the app. Also with the app, you can offer to buy this Torontonian a chocolate dipped muffin. Or something equally delicious. And from there it’s a simple transition to exchanging numbers…

Why Try It: Because finding someone to date while you’re hard at work at a coffee shop makes a lot of sense.

Available For: iPhone and Android

5. Wander

What It Is: Wander has styled itself as “The Social App for Singles.” It’s great for single Toronto girls and guys who like to travel a lot -- and who like the idea of hooking up with someone while traveling. It’s a pretty straightforward idea, actually: you type in your destination on the app. The app then lets you see other singles who are going to your destination. If you see someone you’re interested in, you’ll tap the “Like” button and you’re all set for a nice romantic escapade.

Why Try It: Traveling alone can be...well...lonely. Let this app banish such lonesomeness next time you decide to hop on a jet to Coachella or somewhere.

Available For: iPhone and Android

6. Flutter

What It Is: This is a dating app where you don’t have a bio. Or a profile. So what you do is this: you stare at your phone screen. In front of you will be the live video stream of some other eligible Toronto single. And, of course, they see a live video stream of your face. You like this person? You swipe, and if it’s mutual, the two of you are matched and can begin chatting.

Why Try It: Sometimes a live video stream is worth a thousand words. And sometimes it helps to see a potential match in “live action” before deciding whether you want to meet them in person or not.

Available For: iPhone

7. Happn

What It Is: Every now and then, when you’re ambling through the streets of Toronto or touring your favorite museum, you’ll cross paths with someone. Someone who you wished you had given your number to or just said “Hi!” Well, this dating app solves that problem for you. When you scroll through Happn, you’ll get a chronological run-down of all the other Happn users you’ve come across that day. It uses GPS tracking, so it’ll tell you when some other eligible Toronto single is within 250 meters of you. Then you can press a heart icon next to their pic, and if they do the same with you, the two of you are matched and you can begin talking.

Why Try It: Here’s your chance to express interest in someone you cross paths with, instead of placing a “Missed Connections” in your favourite newspaper.

Available For: iPhone, Android, and Windows

8. Dreamcliq

What It Is: Dreamcliq is like Instagram but it’s exclusively for dating. First you create an account and choose images (from other user accounts) that really express your personality and interests. You can even import photos from your own Facebook, Instagram, or Tumblr profile. Next, the site will find you potential matches based on the stuff you’re into. And if someone thinks you’re cute and is just itching to contact you, they can send you a message -- for a small fee. This ensures that you only get messages from people who really are interested in you.

Why Try It: You get more meaningful matches and messages with this site, because of the small fee required to message a potential match. And it’s also a cool way to find single Toronto people who like the kind of things you’re into.

Available For: It’s an online site.

9. Heavenly Sinful

What It Is: Dating apps can be awkward. You meet up with someone and it turns out they want a one night stand. Meanwhile, you just want to have a casual date and take things slowly. So awkward. Heavenly Sinful claims to fix all of these dating woes. It’s like Tinder, except that for every potential match, you can choose either “Heavenly” (which means you’re more interested in a relationship with this person) or “Sinful” (you can guess what that means). But hey, might still be an interesting experience, right?

Why Try It: Eliminate a modicum of awkwardness from your dating encounters. Be forewarned, however, that some bloggers have reported very few users on this app. Which kinda sucks.

Available For: iOS

10. Boompi

What It Is: Boompi is a dating app that lets a Toronto girl invite her friends to read and comment on private messages she’s exchanging with a guy on the app. So...yeah...the theory behind Boompi is that this feature will encourage more women to join.

Why Try It: If you’re a woman looking for romance in Toronto, you’ll have a lot of fun gossipping with your friends about this one sort of funny guy you’re talking to. And if you’re a single Toronto guy...well...this is another app where you can find your next date, so why not?

Available For: iPhone and Android
