A Massive Lantern Festival Is Coming To Ontario This Summer
Witness the magic.
Thousands of floating lanterns will light up the skies in Ontario with the return of The Lights Fest this summer, a unique celebration of life, hope and dreams.
"The Lights Fest is dedicated to leaving a positive impact on the environment and everyone who attends our event," reads the festival description. "This is an event that is for everyone but cultivates individual experiences. Whether you’re commemorating or celebrating, you’re creating a special memory that will last a lifetime."
Families and friends travel from all overthe province to take part in the spectacle. Upon arrival, guests will check in and find a spot near one of the tiki torches set up in the area. At twilight, the fun begins — live entertainment, music and dancing fill the event space, creating a welcoming experience for all.
Everyone will ignite their lanterns and let go of them at the exact same time of the night, filling the skies with light. This, of course, will only happen once the go-signal has been given by the local local fire authorities. The wind speeds also cannot exceed 15 miles per hour for the release. The staff onsite will give instructions during the event on how to unpack and light the lanterns properly.
"We’ve engineered our lanterns for low flight and landing-site predictability," the company promises. "After the event, we have a large cleaning crew, picking up the lanterns. Our lanterns are 100% biodegradable, so in the rare chance that we miss one, they are designed to quickly disintegrate. Our 'Leave No Trace Policy' allows us to make sure that our venues look the same after we leave as they did before we arrived."
This year, the event will take place in Hamilton/Burlington, with tickets available for online purchase very soon. They range from $25 (VIP ticket) to $55, based on how early you buy them, and each comes with a packet containing a lantern and marker. If the event gets cancelled due to poor wind conditions, the company will reschedule the festival and you will be contacted with an updated itinerary.
Make sure to bring chairs and blankets with you, as well as warm clothing as it can get a little cool at night. There will also be food, drinks and merchandise for purchase during the event, so bring some money with you as well.
