Summer is the best season to spend time outdoors. After being stuck inside our homes for months on end we're all craving some outdoor time and for those of us who want to chill and take it easy this summer, an outdoor movie night is exactly what we need.\nThe Toronto Outdoor Picture Show will be hosting movie nights under the stars this summer and it's going to be right up your alley. They screen films at parks across the city so wherever you are in Toronto, you can experience an evening movie night!\nThey set up 40-foot screens in some of the best parks with stunning views and the best part is that they're all completely free! You don't have to pay a cent to enjoy an outdoor movie screening but they do accept donations to keep their amazing events going each year.\nView this post on Instagram Movie Night in Canada! #CorktownCommon #TOPS17 @TOPictureShow A post shared by Chris Shepherd (@shepsappeal) on Jul 20, 2017 at 6:24pm PDT\nThey have specific dates scheduled for each location including opening weekend on June 15th and 16th at Fort York, Sundays from June 30th until August 25th at Christie Pitts, Thursdays from July 4th until 25th at Corktown Common Park, and Thursdays from August 8th until 22nd at Bell Manor Park.\nThey will be screening some serious classics this summer including Thelma & Louise, Sense and Sensibility, E.T., Some Like It Hot, You've Got Mail, Ratatouille, and many more. You can bring with you any type of cozy seating you want from the classic blanket or beach chair to a blow-up mattress or those viral inflatable chairs that you fill up with air by running around.\nAnything you choose, make sure you're comfortable and as many snacks and drinks as you can handle are encouraged! Just make sure you clean up before you leave the park.\nView this post on Instagram I had the best time at @TOPictureShow this past weekend. A PWYC event supporting this local not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing high quality, diverse, and engaging outdoor film programming to communities across the city. Pizza and movies in the park? Who can complain about that? Grab a blanket, some food or just popcorn, drinks and prepare to cuddle under the sunset while a movie plays on the big screen. You can be as cheap or as YOLO as you want to about it - you can even reserve your own blanket to impress and be VIP. It’s the perfect date idea and I was having major FOMO with all the cute couples around me. @torontodateideas This week, as part of their theme of Cinematic Cities, they will be showing #SELMA which showcases the city as a site of political and social change. SELMA was one of my favourite movies in 2014 (yes, I have a slight bias because I worked on it). I remember so vividly when it was snubbed during the #Oscars nominations, the outrage fuelling the viral #OscarsSoWhite movement. A couple of years ago, The Academy was 92% white and 75% male. This year, they invited 928 new members, half of which are women and a third are people of colour. These invitees included Mindy Kaling, Tiffany Haddish and Kendrick Lamar. Hopefully from this, they will continue to be more inclusive about the stories that they tell and the people who they continue to support.
