Cherry blossoms are so close we can almost smell them and one of the most beautiful times in this city has already begun. In April, the city will have it's official Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival to celebrate the puffy pink and white blooms, but some trees are already blossoming. This year the event is happening from Thursday, April 2 to Sunday, April 26, 2020. As in the past, there will be a massive lineup of cherry blossom and Japanese cultural events. The festival recently announced on their blog that the winter cherries have started to bloom. So grab your camera, and get outdoors as you don't want to miss seeing the pretty pink wonderland. You'll be able to find the pastel-hued blooms on Georgia Street. They can be seen between Willingdon and Boundary. According to the announcement, there are 24 cherry trees over eight blocks. These trees should bloom until the start of April. Plus, you can head to the West End, because some of the trees there have begun two weeks early. To see them, you will need to head to the small park on the corner of Pendrell Street. These flowers are estimated to stay in bloom until the end of March. You will be bombarded with tips to take action like taking the bus, or bringing your water bottle with you, or not accepting any disposable plastic for the day. If I could ask you to do one thing, it would be to think beyond that. Create an even bigger impact by going out of your way to talk to people, send emails and confront businesses (online and in real life) about the choices they are making. Local businesses are run by local people who sometimes are running their business in a way that is normal to them. This is not a time for normal anymore. This is a time to ask managers why the heck they are still wrapping produce in plastic, why your fave takeout place still offers styrofoam, and why big companies are making you feel guilty just for walking through their isles. BE A REBEL FOR 1 DAY. Take time to really feel the impact and suffering of other people and what you CAN do about it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I share eco content all year long.
