This 4.4 Km Hike In Alberta Will Make You Feel Like You're On Mars
You have to see this surreal landscape 😍
At Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park you can hike on a trail that will take you through an unforgettable landscape. Alberta's Mars hiking trail is one that you have to see in person! The Hoodoo Trail is full of mysterious, martian-looking rock formations called hoodoos and they're totally unreal to see up close.
Carved into sandstone cliffs, you'll also see a massive variety of rock art made by the Indigenous Peoples of the area. It's a unique opportunity to come face-to-face with ancient history here in Canada!
If you're going in the summer, know that this trail can get blazing hot so you'll want to bring a hat and plenty of water. You could also avoid hiking during the middle of the day by going out at sunrise or sunset! Also in the summer, there are free shows in the evening where you can learn more about the park through storytelling, dancing, drumming and even wildlife presentations.
Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park is just a 3.5-hour drive from Calgary. It makes a really great day trip for the summer but there are also plenty of campgrounds in the park that you could check out if you want to spend more time there.
This is one of the most picturesque spots in Alberta and since it's just a 4.4 km hike round trip it's totally doable this summer for even the laziest of adventure seekers.
