You Can Go Tubing Through A Surreal Ancient Canyon Near Ontario This Summer
Turn off your mind, relax, and float downstream.
If you’re anything like us, then your summer travel bucket list is already a few pages long. Well, we’re here to make it a little longer. Sorry, not sorry. If you haven’t already, you need to add Ausable Chasm to the list ASAP.
Located just across the border in the state of New York, this ancient canyon is only a few hours away from Ottawa and about six hours from Toronto.
So, it's an ideal weekend getaway for you and the squad.
There are so many ways to see and explore this spot, too! Think rock climbing, hiking the trails, rappelling down the rock walls, and more.
But we think the best way to experience the canyon is by water.
After all, in how many other places can you float down a 3.2 km lazy river in a tube, or take an inflatable raft ride with all of your besties?
Admission to the chasm will cost $17.95, which will grant you access to the amazing trails and trolley.
Rafting or tubing down the lazy river will cost an additional $12.
Under $30 for a bucket-list experience? Sounds like a no-brainer to us.
Can’t decide between tubing or rafting? Don’t worry, this year you can take a second trip for only $5. That way, you can squeeze both amazing activities into your day.
The rafting tours are set to open May 15, 2020, while the lazy river tubing will likely open June 26, weather permitting.
Now, your tube floating experience won’t be entirely lazy, as there is a small section of rapids along the path that floaters will need to portage around.
Both rafting and tubing can take two to three hours to complete. But honestly, with views like this, you’re going to wish it was even longer.
You should expect to get wet on this journey, so dress appropriately and keep in mind that lockers are not available at the tubing start location.
Another thing to note is that flip-flops are not allowed on the tube. If needed, you can purchase water shoes in the gift shop from $9.95 and up.
It won't come as a surprise that this place gets super busy in the warmer months, so try to come as early as possible to avoid wait times.
If you get hungry after all of that floating around, be sure to check out the on-site cafe for a quick and tasty snack.
It’s never too early to start making travel plans, so get those passports ready because summer will be here before we know it. We hope.
