Alberta is so packed with beautiful hidden gems that it's a shame to spend every weekend in the city. There are enough unique outdoor activities here that you could spend every weekend hiking to a new breathtaking waterfall or mountain vista. That being said, we found one of the best trails in Alberta and it's beginner-friendly. It will take you across not only a suspension bridge but three waterfalls too. To begin your unforgettable adventure, you'll need to head to the Kootenay Plains Ecological Reserve. It is three hours away from Calgary, or slightly under four hours from Edmonton. The 9.7-kilometre trail starts at the Siffleur Falls staging area. Here you'll begin your scenic trek through the gorge and open plains toward the North Saskatchewan River. Early in the journey, you'll get to enjoy the dazzling lookout while crossing a wooden boardwalk and a suspension bridge. The bridge is especially stunning, and you might want to stop in the middle to enjoy a view of the turquoise water and the mountain peaks in the distance. Most of your walk will be on a flat gravel road, aside from one area where you will need to walk up a steep slope, making it a reasonably effortless hike. After walking roughly four kilometres, you'll reach the first falls. The view of rushing water pouring down a cliff is absolutely mesmerizing. You'll see the flowing water make a steep drop along the jagged stones. But for your safety, make sure to stay on the main path and behind the safety rails the entire way — if you venture off the marked route, you risk falling into the deep gorge. A post shared by sarahlindsaywardxo (@sarahlindsaywardxo) on Aug 30, 2019 at 7:52pm PDT The rocks by the water can be a bit slippery, so it is a good idea to have shoes with a good grip on them. After reaching the main attraction, most people turn around and head back to their car. But what they don't realize is there are two other falls further along the path. It will take you another 2.5 kilometres to reach the second one, and past that another 1.5 kilometres to reach the third.
