If there's one thing Alberta is NOT known for, it's our beaches; likely because we don't have very many. Just because we're a province that primarily consists of prairie doesn't mean we don't know how to have some fun in the sun, though.

If you look hard enough and don't mind doing a little road tripping, you'll find quite a few places where you can spend the day in your swimsuit! No matter if you're up north in Edmonton, or stuck in the city of Calgary, there's always somewhere for you to check out:

Banff Upper Hot Springs

Odds are good you'll find yourself in the mountains at some point this summer, so why not fit in a few hours of relaxing in the hot spring while you're there?! It's a great way to rejuvenate yourself after a day of hiking or de-stress from your other responsibilities.

World Waterpark

If you want to avoid a sunburn, but still want to spend a day in your swimsuit, head to World Waterpark in Edmonton! Get some indoor surfing lessons, check out the abundance of waterslides, or simply float around in the wading pool.

Sylvan Lake

We don't have much in the way of beaches here in Alberta, but Sylvan Lake will get you pretty close. Whether you spend the day in the water or just relax and soak up the sun on the sand, you'll definitely leave a few shades darker than when you came.

Bow River

For many Calgarians, floating down the Bow River is a summer tradition. If you're not scared of a potential sunburn, you can certainly do it in your bathing suit, as long as you apply plenty of SPF.

Castle Falls

If one day in your swimsuit isn't enough, plan to spend the whole weekend in your swimsuit when you camp at Castle Falls! There's plenty of water to be explored and cliffs to be jumped here, and it's also a great spot to work on your tan.

Sikome Lake

If you're in Calgary and don't quite feel like making the drive out to Sylvan Lake, Sikome Lake is the closest thing you'll find to a beach. It's usually a pretty busy spot, but if you don't mind that then you'll definitely have a great day soaking up the sun or hanging out in the water.

Horseshoe Lake

Horseshoe Lake is one of Alberta's best-kept secrets. This swimming hole is located in Jasper National Park and is a great place to cool off after a hike or do some cliff jumping if you're feeling extra adventurous. Apart from all of that, it's super picturesque, so you'll definitely get some amazing photos.

Alberta Beach

No matter if you're boating, floating, swimming, or tanning, time spent at Alberta Beach is always a day well spent! Get together a group of friends, your family, or your significant other for a day of love, laughs, and sunshine.

Ma Me O Beach

Located just an hour outside of Edmonton, Ma Me O beach is the perfect spot to waste away a summer day. Bring along your favorite floaties for a day in the water, or pack a picnic lunch to enjoy in the shade.
