But you haven't truly travelled around Alberta if you haven’t cruised the iconic Icefields Parkway. Filled with rugged mountains, bodies of water, and a whole lot of wildlife views, this stretch of highway is truly a road-tripper's dream.
There's nothing better than getting in the car with a friend, loved one, or dog and.
Canada has such a diverse landscape and driving the highways means If you've ever driven from one province to the next, you know just how diverse the terrain up here in the Great White North truly is..
One of the best highways to drive on is the Icefields Parkway in Alberta.
Taking this journey through Banff National Park and Jasper National Park is like a right of passage for anyone, whether you're from here, just driving through, or brand new to the province.
Linkingwith Jasper, this road has been rated as one of the top drives in the world. So you know it’s good.
Altogether, it's a 232 kilometre stretch of double lane highway that winds along the Continental Divide.
During your drive, you will see incredible views of the rocky mountains, icefields, valleys, rivers and lakes, and maybe even a moose or bear.
There are over 100 ancient glaciers to see on your drive and even some waterfalls to chase.
TLC always told us to ever chase waterfalls but they have clearly never seen the ones along this highway.
Don’t worry about travelling at full speed to keep up with traffic. It’s a double lane highway so if you’re going for the views, stick to the right lane and take it easy.
We suggest stopping along the way wherever it's safe to do so.
Pictures are a must so make sure your camera and phone batteries are charged and ready to go.
The highway can be travelled any time of the year and depending on when you go, you will be treated to different views.
From the snowy mountain peaks in the winter to the intense colour pallet from the changing tree leaves in the fall, the highway has a magical power of always looking beautiful.
At some point, you have to try it for yourself.
Fill the car with gas and your favourite road snacks and get going.
