Standing right next to a roaring waterfall is a dangerous idea. But what if you could enjoy the sights on a safe viewing platform? This epic B.C. boardwalk trail is minutes from the highway and takes you to powerful falls.

You can find this phenomenal hiking trail in Rearguard Falls Provincial Park, near the B.C. and Alberta border. It is five and a half hours away from Kelowna or Calgary, and worth every minute in your car.

Once you arrive at the park, it impossible to get lost. From the well-labelled parking lot, you follow the only path that takes you directly to the boardwalk.

It is a super easy, less than half a kilometre route that will take you 15 minutes each way.

Then, on the spacious boardwalk, you can spend all your free time marvelling at the colossal Rearguard Falls.

While this might sound dangerous, you are perfectly safe. There are tall metal fences all around to prevent you from falling.

But make sure you follow the rules and don't attempt to climb the railing or leave the marked trails to get the better photo.

While there, you'll get to feel the cold water mist your face, as you see the rushing Fraser River tumble through the canyon.

Standing above, so close to the waves, it such a unique experience. It unlike other waterfalls you've chased in the past where you see them from below.

If you visit in the late summer, keep an eye out for leaping salmon. This spot marks the end of the over 1000 kilometre journey they make from the Pacific Ocean.

While this spot might be a bit far from the city, it would be a memorable pit stop on a road trip.
