This Hidden Swimming Hole Is Ontario’s Best Kept Secret
Summer is 100% in the air. From ice cream to popsicles to patios to beaches, our summer bucket lists are seriously filling up. One thing is for sure, the best thing to do on a hot sunny day, is to go for a swim. There are so many beaches in Ontario we can all visit this summer, but this hidden swimming hole is definitely a must.
The blue swimming hole shimmers as the summer sun hits the water, pack your swimming bag because you're about to have a blast. You will be in complete awe as soon as you see the turquoise water that's surrounded by white quartzite. The stunning lake is located at the edge of a freshwater fjord and it is sure to have you splashing your day away. Let the smell of sunscreen fill the air as you soak up the summer sun.
Topaz Lake is located in Killarney Ontario and you have to visit it this summer. You can only get to the lake after an 11 kilometre hike and it's worth the journey. Topaz Lake can be found along the Baie Fine section of the La Cloche Silhouette Trail, nearly halfway along “The Pig” portage into Threenarrows Lake. Even though it's a bit of a journey to get to the lake, you definitely won't regret it.
The lake is just one of the many treasures of Killarney Provincial Park. The park has 645 square kilometre wilderness landscapes that showcase the wild Georgian Bay Coast of pink granite; the La Cloche Mountains’ white quartzite ridges and over 50 exceptionally clear, sapphire lakes set among Jack Pine hills. As soon as you see the lake you will be in complete relaxation mode, from the smell of pine trees to the blue water, this lake is a true summer oasis.
Whether you head here for a picnic or a day in the sun, this lake is a perfect summer hangout spot. The lake was painted by Arthur Lismer (Group of Seven) in a work called 'Bright Lands'. It's no wonder this stunning lake inspired him to paint, from the tall pine trees to the white quartzite cliffs, the lake is a true natural gem. The private lake oasis will have you soaking up the summer sun!
Topaz Lake has many white quartzite diving cliffs, however if you choose to dive, it's at your own risk. Killarney Provincial Park is a 6 hour drive from Ottawa, 4 hour drive from Toronto, 7 hour drive from London, and only a 3 hour drive from Kingston. It's time to discover this epic hidden gem this summer!
