With an abundance of charmingly adorable small towns in Ontario, there's no way we're going to let a little cold and snow get in the way of our travel plans. If you have an insatiable appetite for wanderlust, but a bank account that doesn't allow for constant airline ticket purchases, don't fret! We may have found the cutest small town in Ontario for a perfect winter escape.

With frozen sand dunes, enchanting little cafes, and enough wine to keep you warm all winter long, Picton is an ideal place to spend a wintery weekend away.

You can satisfy that travel bug without breaking the bank and without even leaving the province. Who knew there was so much to discover right here in our backyard?

Picton is well known for the iconic summer destination, Sandbanks Provincial Park. But summer brings hoards of visitors to the park and beach, making the quiet winter days a unique alternative.

After a few hours of outdoor exploration, you can head downtown where the shops and cafes look like they've been pulled from an old-time movie set. Seriously, they are too cute.

So, if you need a winter day trip plan, think about heading to Picton.

Okay, we know what you're thinking. Beaches in the winter? But these incredible sand dunes located in Sandbanks Provincial Park are incredible no matter what season it is.

In fact, winter may arguably be one of the best times to go. The cold weather doesn't draw a huge crowd as the summer does, so you can explore these dunes with a little privacy.

If snowshoeing and cross-country skiing is a winter staple for you, then you'll want to check out the trails at Macaulay Mountain Conservation Area.

The conservation area is beautiful when covered in snow, and a great place to bring your pup along for an adventure.

You'll also find an eclectic collection of adorable birdhouses in the area, as well.

After all that exploring, you might find yourself in need of a warm drink and somewhere cute to get cozy.

Well, you'll be in the perfect place, as there are plenty of quaint cafes lining the Picton streets, but The Vic Cafe totally deserves a spot on your bucket list. You can try a wide variety of lattes, coffees and teas as well as an enticing food and drink menu.

Did you even visit if you didn't pop into at least one winery? The Closson Chase winery is one of many that stays open in the winter months, so you can get your sip on.

Naturally, you'll need a place to stay after all of that wine. And when it comes to accommodations in Picton, The June Motel is a true dream.

Once a dingy roadside motel, this spot has been transformed into a travel lover's paradise. In fact, you may never want to leave your room.

So there you have it. if you're looking to spice up your winter, consider Picton, Ontario. We doubt you'll regret it.
