This Adorable Town In Canada Transforms Into An Old-Fashioned Victorian Christmas Village
Have yourself a vintage little Christmas!
A vintage-inspired Christmas feels so much more authentic than today’s world of tacky bright colours and plastic decor. If you want to feel swept up in the romance of a Victorian Christmas and feel like you’re actually inside the story of Little Women, then head up to Barkerville in British Columbia for a truly magical holiday experience.
With plenty of merchants and activities on site, a day spent here will fly by in a warm and fuzzy blur. Barkerville’s own Mr. Bowron will perform a dramatic reading of the best Christmas story ever—Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol! You can find Father Christmas inside the Enchanted Forest to see him taking photos with the kids.
If you’re curious to learn more about Barkerville and its history, you can take a guided tour that runs through the town’s Main Street. One of the most magical experiences at Barkerville’s Victorian Christmas is their old-fashioned sleigh ride through the historic snow-covered town.
Shop at the vintage-inspired merchants for everything from last-minute gifts to treats and goodies. You can satisfy your sweet tooth at the Wendle House where they will be serving up fresh home baking! Get lunch at Goldfield Bakery and indulge in their traditional Victorian Christmas fare that you can take home.
Plus, if you still need to pick up stocking stuffers, you can do so at McMahon's Confectionary. Their candy shop is inspired by the 1930s and has amazing candies and fudge you can wrap up for Christmas. There are a ton of merchants to explore and discover, each of them more vintage and Instagram-worthy than the next!
