It may not seem like it, but Ontario is a great place for seeing the spring flowers. Across the province, several towns hold various festivals dedicated to different flowers, from tulips and roses to sunflowers and cherry blossoms.

The city of Oshawa is hosting its own festival dedicated entirely to peonies, which make their grand return every year during springtime. Hosted by the Canadian Peony Society, the event features over 300 colourful peony collections in full bloom across multiple gardens.

Stunning gardens, architectural features and water fountains fill the network of parks that constitute the Oshawa Valley Botanical Garden, which is where the peony festival will take place. The venue will be filled with several garden-inspired works by local painters, sculptors and artisans throughout the area.

The peony festival is a celebration of all things horticulture. Watch live tutorials on how to grow your own flower garden from expert growers, experience musical entertainment and cultural performances, and indulge in some great food provided by local restaurants. There will also be various contests for the best photos, the best art and of course, the best peonies.

Once you're done at the festival, you can also head over to the nearby Parkwood National Historic Site, which offers 12 more acres of gardens and a historic mansion.
