While it may feel like summer is quickly slipping away, there's still time to sneak in one last beach trip before the cool autumn winds kick in. If you're down for a little road trip, this adorable lighthouse near Toronto is totally worth the two-and-a-half-hour drive. With picturesque views, swimming, and the cutest little lighthouse you've ever seen, there is so much to enjoy at Wellington Rotary Beach.

Nestled along Lake Ontario, this small quiet beach offers a peaceful escape from the city at any time of year. From spring to winter, there are all kinds of beauty to be enjoyed, Prince Edward County's Destination Development & Marketing Coordinator Ashley Stewart tells Narcity.

"In the winter, the ice shelves and waves are stunning, but best enjoyed from a distance. The water is still warm in the fall and the vibrant colours are beautiful," Stewart explains.

"Summer beach days are the best but plan on arriving early or walking or cycling in as it gets quite busy and the road is known to close. And spring is lovely, very calm and tranquil."

The tiny green and white lighthouse - which is actually a beacon light, according to Stewart - is just one of many reasons to visit the beach. Additionally, there is also an adorable boardwalk that loops around the entire beach and leads to a sheltered picnic area. The boardwalk loop is accessible and stroller-friendly.

Since the water stays warm into the fall season, swimming is popular here as well, though beach-goers should be careful to avoid the boat channel, Stewart says.

"The beach and the channel are separate. There's definitely lots of beach swimming but swimmers are asked to stay out of the channel as boats and water currents make it unsafe."

Wellington Rotary Beach is open all year round from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. Parking, picnic areas, washrooms, change rooms, and showers are all available. You can even bring your dog along, just make sure they stay on-leash.
