Your next vacation might be sooner than you think. Westjet's new schedule for August includes hundreds of daily flights to spots around the world. The new destinations include flights from Canada to spots like Mexico and the Caribbean. They've also got a number of new safety protocols to combat COVID-19 on their flights.

According to a news release on Monday, July 13, WestJet announced over 200 daily flights for August, reaching 48 airports "across Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe."

This includes 39 domestic airports in Canada. The international destinations include: "five in the U.S., two in Europe, one in the Caribbean, one in Mexico."

The increased domestic flights and new international locations will start on Thursday, July 16, and last until Friday, September 4.

While flying, they said passengers can expect great hygiene and safety through their "Safety Above All" program, which includes reducing contact at check-in, mandatory face masks during travel, safety screening including temperature checks, and more.

"With the many safeguards and procedures in place, we are certain Canadians can safely resume travel to destinations across our network," said Arved von zur Muehlen, CEO of WestJet.

Starting Thursday, August 20, the airline will also be restarting non-stop Dreamliner flights from Calgary to London and Paris.

They'll also be starting service to Cancun, Mexico, and once-weekly flights to Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Even though August will have 10% more flying than July, the month still has 75% less flying than in August of 2019.

On Wednesday, July 1, WestJet changed their social distancing rules aboard their flights.

Before, passengers had a one-seat distance between them. Now, the airline has added blockades between seats instead.

They're not just increasing flights but temporarily suspending some domestic travel as well, due to travel restrictions.

Still, as international tourism starts to carefully reopen this summer, some of your travel plans might become a reality once again.
