Greek food is possibly the god of Mediterranean cuisine, with its insanely delicious pastries, meats and spices. Though we dream of sitting on a rooftop patio overlooking the gorgeous island of Mykonos, we have to snap back to reality (eventually). A trip to Greece may be on your bucket list, but for now you can get lost in a whirlwind of Greek food and culture at Atlanta's Greek Festival this month for as little as $5.

The festival will be held Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 29 at the immaculate Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in North Druid Hills. If you can't make it to the event, you can still experience all the flavor at the cathedral's drive-thru Sept. 13 through Sept. 15.

Hosted by Greek Orthodox Christian community for over four decades, The Atlanta Greek Festival is a cultural celebration of all things Greek including food, wine, dancing, artisan apparel, and more.

You can eat your hearts out Greek-style with authentic and traditional foods prepared by Greek volunteers who are passionate about sharing their heritage.

You will get to savor foods like souvlaki, Greek lasagna, lamb sandwiches, gyro wraps, spanakopita and a pastry sampler. Our mouths are watering, too.

There is more than just food involved as we come together to celebrate this adventurous culture. There will be plenty of craft beer and wine; a marketplace full of authentic artisan jewelry, apparel, hand-crafted pottery and more; and non-stop performances on the main stage, including traditional bouzouki and Greek dancing.

You can also learn about the rich 2,000-year-old faith and view the amazing iconography and the brilliant mosaic dome of Christ.

If you love cultural festivals and want to experience more, take a short vacay to this Shrimp & Grits Fest in Jekyll Island in September for a Creole experience or take your tastebuds on a global adventure at this massive food truck festival in Savannah in October.
