This Vintage New Orleans Bar Is Literally A Rotating Merry-Go-Round
Nostalgic carnival vibes, but with booze.
You may be thinking that fair season is over, but there's a vintage bar in New Orleans that likes to keep the carnival vibes alive all-year-round. If you're looking for something new to spruce up your bar-hopping adventures, the Carousel Bar in New Orleans is the place to do it. Combine childhood nostalgia with classy adult cocktails and you've got yourself a night for the books.
The Carousel Bar, established way back in 1949, is a dazzling, whimsical bar inside Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans. The one-of-a-kind hot spot is literally a merry-go-round that's been completely transformed into a bar. The best part: it's functional. Yes, the bar actually revolves.
Although it's been around for 70 years, it's still one of the coolest and most unique places to ever exist, landing it a spot on Vogue Living's Top 20 Bars in the World. Even A-list celebs come to grab a drink when they're in the area.
The retro structure is embroidered with beautiful vintage design and bright sparkling lights, creating a super fun rotating ride while still giving off sultry, Gatsby-esque vibes. The circus-style bar is powered by a chain and motor that smoothly revolves the bar on 2,000 large steel rollers.
The full-service bar mixes up carefully-crafted cocktails like the Sweet Basil (tequila, campari, basil, agave, lime juice and grapefruit juice), the Sage Blossom (gin, Lillet Blanc, lemon juice, simple syrup and sage) and the classic NOLA Hurricane.
Needless to say, this is one of the most popular bars in the French Quarter so you should prepare to wait for a seat at the actual carousel. However, there are plenty of additional seating arrangements to sip on drinks while you wait.
