If you grew up eating traditional Mexican cuisine, you're one of the lucky ones. Those who didn't now spend their lives in search of the real thing, only to find an authentic dish only a handful of times. Texans, however, are in luck because a San Antonio restaurant that specializes in gorditas is celebrating the dish with a day of nothing but Mexican food this month. Doña Tota is a restaurant that prides itself in serving 100% native Mexican corn and flour gorditas. On Sunday, February 9, from 6 to 9 p.m., Doña Tota is having a gordita eating contest where the winner will leave with much more than a full belly. If you have yet to try this meaty Mexican dish, then now's your chance, whether you participate in the contest or not! The traditional dish consists of a masa pastry that is stuffed with cheese, meat, or any other preferred filling. Guests who do and don't participate in the contest will have access to $1 gorditas from 5 p.m. until the restaurant closes. You read that correctly, as many tasty meaty delights as you can handle for only $1 each. Aside from the competition, it'll feel like a full-blown party from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave. And you might possibly leave as a champion.
