This Bohemian Inspired Spot Near Tampa Radiates All The Good California Desert Vibes
A hippie desert getaway!
Florida and California may have similar climates, beaches, and receive the same seasonal snowbirds, but it’s clear that the vibes of each state are very distinct. If you’re looking for that classic desert hippie vibe that somewhat escapes Florida, but don’t have the time or money to fly across the country, then Florida has the perfect hidden oasis for you: 801 E. Main St. in Lakeland.
801 E. Main St., like any really good homegrown gem, came from humble beginnings, and now consists of three “houses,” The Poor Porker, Bearcat & Big 6 Trading Post, and Calexico. Succulents, wood accents, floral patterns, and even a big cloth teepee paint a picture of the perfect desert oasis.
The owner, Robyn, serves up delicious New Orleans-style beignets and cold brew and hot coffee from the food-truck style farmer’s stand The Poor Porker. As is to be expected of a place like this, the coffee is of course freshly roasted, organic, and fair trade.
The Bearcat & Big 6 Trading Post is a little shop filled with vintage treasures, finds from locals, and travel books to spark that wanderer spirit in you.
And then of course, there’s Calexico, which drives home the southwestern desert vibe just in its name alone.
In Calexico, you’ll find an assortment of wine and beer, and an ever-evolving menu of southern and ethnic bites.
Don’t worry, there’s plenty of vegan and vegetarian options too. This is Cali-inspired, after all.
This spot is open well into the night, as there are weekly karaoke nights and live bands that provide entertainment in the.
You can even rent the space out for events or private parties. Bring your own catering, or request any combination of the beignet booth,, or bar to suit your needs.
