As much as you might love dogs, the years of commitment they require might not be something you’re ready to sign up for - and that’s okay. There’s still a way to make a difference in the lives of Atlanta’s shelter pups, and all it takes is a few days of commitment. You can foster a dog for the weekend through Lifeline Animal Project. Their three shelters in Dekalb and Fulton County give you the chance to pick up a dog on Friday and return them on Monday. All they need is for you to organize a fun-filled weekend for them. Another bonus is that it's completely free. Trading the shelter walls for a world of greenery is something your four-legged friend will thank you for with plenty of doggie kisses. You don’t even have to worry about supplies because you’ll be given everything you need when you first arrive at the shelter. Food for the weekend, a crate, collar, and a leash are all included. Your dog will be decked out in a vest, leash or bandana that reads "Adopt me." This way, when they’re out and about enjoying their weekend, they might drum up some interest from their potential future family. View this post on Instagram Joe has been in the shelter since January. He is loving his afternoon walk in the sun. Also, Pinky (who I walked previously) has since been adopted! 😀 A post shared by James Murray (@jamesrobertmurray) on May 5, 2019 at 11:45am PDT Besides having fun, your one task is to take a ton of pictures and videos while taking notes on their behavior. How do they walk on the leash? How do they interact with strangers? How do they react when they see another dog? These are just some of the questions you'll take mental note of. And even if it's not asked of you, spread the word of your weekend on your social media page. With all the random followers and story views you get, one of them may be a potential adopter. If a weekend is too much of a commitment for you, you can still help out. You can volunteer with the "Dog for the Day" program. You'll spend an afternoon day tripping with the dog of your choice.
