When Austin's stay-at-home order was issued last month, not only were restaurants, retailers, and small business owners affected, but animal shelters were too. Austin Pets Alive! immediately took to social media to bring awareness to the fact that their animals needed homes as soon as possible, and the community responded. Earlier this week, the Austin animal shelter announced that one of their locations is the emptiest its been in 70 years.\nA spokesperson for Austin Pets Alive! told Community Impact Newspaper on April 7 that, "Last weekend Austin Pets Alive! realized that our Town Lake Animal Center was the emptiest it has been in over 70 years because of the amount of foster homes we have secured and adoptions."\nWhether people are fostering-to-adopt or simply providing temporary homes to these animals, everyone who has helped make this happen is doing an amazing thing.\nTimes like these call for reminders that not everything is bad, and this is the perfect example of just that.\nEven Queer Eye's Antoni has helped the animal rescue service, fostering a dog named Neon while he was filming in Austin.\nThis isn't the first animal shelter that has seen a tremendous impact from its community, and hopefully, it won't be the last.\nView this post on Instagram Introducing Post Doc! A recent arrival, she's in the process of doing postdoctoral research on the best methods of getting comfy cozy (kitty technical term). So far, she's tested out spending the day in a warm, soft spot under the following circumstances: 1. next to a kind human, 2. on a seat cushion, 3. on a bed. She's very pleased with the results. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Post Doc would love for her snuggle studies to continue in a home of her very own. If it could be yours, contact us to meet this gorgeous and wise senior lady today! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #AustinPetsAlive #austintx #austinadoptables #catsofaustin #catsofatx #adoptdontshop #livesworthsaving #seniorcat #seniorkittizen A post shared by Austin Pets Alive! In her previous life, she spent her days as the guard dog of her owners' car shop. The home she knew was a violent one and when the couple eventually got a divorce, the husband decided there was no longer room for Lucy in the picture and abanded her at a store between their home and the car shop. The owners said that Lucy had never been to their home, but remarkably that's where she ran to when she fled the store. This is how she ended up at Beaumont Animal Care. Being completely full due to COVID-19, they asked if we could save this sweet, but fearful girl. We don't know if the abuse was ever directed at her, but we do know whatever happened in her past makes her unsure of men. Having her in our care means that we can work through these fears together. Tonight she will sleep in a home for the very first time with her foster who will show her what kindness and safety feels like. That's only possible because of you all standing beside us in our mission to give these animals the second chance at life they deserve.
