Greg Abbott Just Announced That Hair & Nail Salons Can Open This Friday
He has high hopes for Texas.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott discussed reopening Texas during a press conference that started at 2:30 p.m. today. Abbott presented numbers and statistics supporting his decision going forward with his plan to reopen Texas in phases. As early as Friday, May 8, all hair, nail, and tanning salons will be allowed to open in Texas.
"One thing I look at every day is the percentage rate of those who are tested and those who test positive," said Abbott.
According to the Texas governor, the rate of Texans testing positive for COVID-19 has been "cut in half" as of late.
This has led Abbott to make the decision of allowing hair, nail, tanning, and more salons to open Friday, May 8, with stylists limited to one customer at a time.
Also, customers that wait inside of each establishment must stay six feet apart from one another. Practicing proper social distancing is key.
In addition to salons reopening soon, on Monday, May 18,gyms and recreational facilities to reopen.
May 18 is when phase two ofis said to begin, so long as COVID-19 cases remain low between now and then.
Abbott tweeted on Sunday, May 3, "GREAT NEWS: The number of Texans who have RECOVERED from #COVID19 now exceeds the number of active COVID cases for the past 2 days.
"That’s exactly what we want to see. Texas ranks 3rd highest among states for number of people who have recovered from #coronavirus. #txlege," Abbott concluded.
Abbott shared during the press conference that a total of 427,210 Texans have been tested as of today.
Not only did Abbott discuss businesses that would be reopening during the month of May, but he also addressed what to expect from social gatherings such as weddings, burials, and more.
These gatherings are being told to follow the same guidelines that churches have been told to follow thus far, such as spaced seating.
Those who are in the high-risk category, including people 65 and up, are being advised to stay home for these events when possible.
Although gyms are allowed to reopen come May 18, locker rooms and other facilities in gyms will not be open to prevent any safety issues.
