You've heard the catchphrase "Who Rescued Who?", well this is your time to find out what that saying is all about. Thousands of amazing dogs and cats around Houston are looking for their fur-ever home. Since Southeast Texas is one of the more densely populated areas of the country, there are so many lonely dogs and cats looking for love. Clear the Shelters in Houston is an event taking place Aug. 17 is bringing awareness to pups just waiting in to jump into your arms and begin the new chapter of their life.

Over the past four years, the annual event has brought together over 250,000 animals and humans together. Several shelters around the city including the Houston Humane Society and Pasadena Animal Shelter*, have partnered together to waive adoption fees over the weekend.

Some locations will be complete with refreshments, activities, and many of Houston's local vendors. Even if you're not ready to bring a new four-legged family member into your home and just stopping by to do some window shopping, it helps to support our local business owners and show some love for this kind-hearted event.

Try not to be overwhelmed by all the wagging tails and purring kittens, the right fit is just waiting to be discovered. Helpful hints: go to the "kill shelters" first because unfortunately, some of these babies have an expiration date to make room for the constantly overflowing shelters — and always trust your instincts. Also, make sure to bring cash so you can get supplies from the centers or the local vendors.

Come early because there may be lines out the doors for many of our local shelters. All adoptions include a set of yearly vaccines, microchip and a spay or neuter for any animal you choose! Additionally, there is a $75 fee for any dog who is getting a heartworm test.

This is an excellent chance to show support for a worthy cause, and potentially save a life, and add an irreplaceable bond to call your own.
