Get ready to get that summer body in tone, South Florida. Miami gyms reopen on Monday, June 8, to the joy of fitness buffs. However, there will be some new rules to follow before you hit the exercise machine.

As a part of Mayor Carlos Gimenez's New Normal plan, fitness studios throughout the county will have to adhere to CDC guidelines in order to operate.

So you can expect gyms to look more cleaner when you visit since equipment and surfaces will need to be disinfected regularly.

Also, you'll have a lot more room to workout than before, thanks to the social distancing measures. All members must be separated by six feet with a face mask or 10 feet without one. If you're not working out, you'll need to have your face covered.

"Common use amenities," like steam rooms, saunas, locker rooms, and showers, will stay closed for the time being.

Although not implemented by the county, some gyms will require temperatures checks upon entry.

Most gyms around the state reopened on May 18, but Miami-Dade had to wait until Gov. Ron DeSantis and Mayor Gimenez gave their blessings.

Fitness centers weren't the only spots to reopen around the county on Monday. Tattoo and massage parlors also got the go-ahead to fling open their doors. Even public libraries will welcome back book-lovers and internet users.

Most businesses in the region welcomed patrons after a long hiatus, though the once lively social scene remains closed as clubs and other nightlife spots did not get the stamp of approval.

Miami-Dade, along with Broward and Palm Beach counties, are still in "full Phase 1," while the rest of the state has moved on to "Phase 2" of DeSantis' reopening plan.

That means that bars and entertainment facilities that were allowed to reopen elsewhere will remain shuttered in South Florida for the time being.
