You Can Officially Camp At These Mississippi Lake Parks Again Next Month
Mississippi has no shortage of natural wonders to explore, from lush forest hikes to mountain views and refreshing lakes. Many camping spots have been closed to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Now, some Mississippi campgrounds are officially reopening next month, and just in time for summer. So, pack a backpack and get ready to plan your nature retreats.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will reopen Class A campgrounds to the public on June 1 according to a news release.
Nature lovers can look forward to returning to select parks at Arkabutla Lake, Enid Lake, Grenada Lake, and Sardis Lake.
will be able to access shower facilities, boat ramps, hiking trails, and fishing sites. High-touch areas will still be off-limits for the time being — that includes pavilions, picnic areas, , and playgrounds.
Field offices and visitor centers will also be closed, and if you need to apply for a specific permit, you’ll have to do so online.
Theopening at Arkabutla Lake include Dub Patton, South Abutment, Outlet Channel, Kelly’s Crossing, and Pleasant Hill.
At Grenada Lake, you can visit North Abutment, North Graysport, and Gums Crossing. Skuna Turkey campground will be open and you don't have to pay a fee to camp there.
Enid Lake reopenings include Wallace Creek, Persimmon Hill, Chickasaw Hill, and Water Valley Landing. Plum Point and Long Branch will be open and fee collection will be suspended.
Sardis Lake will see Oak Grove, Pat’s Bluff, Hurricane Landing, and Clear Creek opening. Sardis Lake campgrounds with suspended fee collection include Sleepy Bend, Graham Lake, and Elmer’s Hill.
All payments and reservations will be done online to help keep park rangers and visitors safe.
