The Battery is one of the biggest attractions in Atlanta. It's not just home to a baseball stadium, it's also one of the coolest entertainment hubs with lots of booze, food and street entertainment. Now, you can look forward to a mini version of the beloved baseball kingdom, AKA the Newnan Entertainment and Sports District, that's likely going to start construction soon.\nThe Battery is facing a bit of backlash lately for the recent re-branding of SunTrust Park, which is now called Truist Park. The Newnan Entertainment and Sports District (NEST) is the perfect distraction to divert the negative attention to something more positive.\nAlthough not fully approved, the City of Newnan has been looking for public input about the sports and entertainment complex. A meeting was held Tuesday (January 14) to present the idea to locals, allowing them to ask questions and provide feedback. Another public meeting will take place today (January 16) at 6 p.m.\nAccording to a Biz Journals report, the proposed project would feature a 2,500-seat sports venue and multi-use facility that would host Coastal Plain League baseball games, NCAA soccer tournaments, travel sports tournaments, concerts and festivals.\n"If all goes according to plan, the venue could be ready for use by spring 2021," says Ashley Copeland, Communications Manager at City of Newnan.\nNEST | City of Newnan\nThe concept would be situated on a 14-acre tract of land located east of I-85 near the intersection of Diplomat Parkway and Newnan Crossing Boulevard.\nNEST | City of Newnan\nThis area is adjacent to another 8.5 acres that could be developed to complement the project, which was proposed by Newnan Grand Slam LLC.\nNEST | City of Newnan\nWe are not yet sure what the rest of the land would be used for, but it could be privately developed.\nThe project developers aim to emulate The Battery, so Georgians can hope for some super fun bars and yummy eats.
