It's Official, You'll Soon Be Able To Take A Train Straight To Disney World From South FL
All aboard the train to the Happiest Place on Earth!
Florida has some incredible places to travel to and while the journey is just part of the adventure, our train travel lines are limited. That’s why we were super stoked to find out that Virgin Trains is working on expanding their rail to connect Orlando, Cocoa Beach, West Palm Beach, and Tampa. But perhaps the best part? They’ve even finalized plans for a station that takes you right to Disney World from South Florida.
Virgin Trains and Disney have signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of a station on Disney property in Orlando. This railway would connect the most visited theme park in the world with areas in the southern part of the state., the idea of a station in Orlando parks was just a tantalizing but tentative idea. Now,
The connection would also include PortMiami, allowing Disney cruise guests to better reach the parks as well.
The connection to Tampa is still only a potential thought in the memorandum, as lease negotiations with state agencies for the right of way access have not furthered beyond that point. The memorandum also states that once terms with Disney are completed, they hope to open the theme park station shortly after the Orlando station.
The railway will certainly become a staple of transportation for the Sunshine State’s 126 million visitors, as well as its residents who travel across the state for work.
Virgin even anticipates that Disney will see an estimated 1 million riders yearly that will only continue to climb over the years of use.
While Disney executives have not openly commented on the plans, Senior Vice President Ben Porritt was enthusiastic that a connection from Orlando International Airport directly to a Walt Disney Resort Property would transform the region.
Right of way negotiations are set to be completed by January 1, and the Orlando route is estimated to take 36 months to complete.
While it may still be a while before we’re cruising into Disney World by train, we think it’ll be well worth the wait! Stay tuned for further updates.
