Animal themes aren't rare when it comes to Georgia sports. We've already got the iconic Bulldogs, Hawks and Falcons, but now Major League Soccer is hopping on the train too. The Atlanta United puppy is the most adorable new addition to the team, but he's actually not a mascot.

Spike, a precious yellow Labrador Retriever, was recently announced (January 23) as the newest Atlanta United member, but he is more than just a symbol of the team. He is actually training to be a service dog.

It's no coincidence how his name was chosen. If you're a United fan, you can probably guess where it comes from. Before each game, a local celebrity hammers a golden spike into the ground to represent the founding of Atlanta. And here we have it; a golden "Spike" in the form of an adorable Lab pup.

Spike goes down in history as the first service dog to represent an MLS team. According to an Eerie News Now report, Atlanta United teamed up with America's VetDogs to make this possible.

Even though there are some super cute players (that you might be able to spot at these ATL places), you're probably going to agree that this pup is the cutest of them all.

The 12-week-old pooch will be training in Atlanta for the next 14 to 16 months and you can spot him at match days and community events for ATL UTD.

After his training here, he will return to VetDogs in New York to complete the course and eventually aid in opening doors, interrupting nightmares and comforting his new veteran owner.

It's no surprise that his sweet baby face is melting all the hearts. He even has 11k followers on Instagram already. Do yourself a favor and let this little guy bless your timeline with his irresistible cuteness.
