Thursday afternoon, Major League Soccer declared that it would be following the NBA's lead and would suspend the 2020 season for 30 days amid the ongoing pandemic. David Beckham's Inter Miami CF was supposed to debut Saturday after years of delays — and this afternoon, the club owner took to social media to respond.\nBeckham announced that he would be bringing soccer to Miami eight years ago. In the meantime, there have been numerous obstacles along the way and he and his partner Jorge Mas have had to deal with things like polluted soil, permit issues, and construction delays.\nDespite all the challenges, Beckham's dream to own his own MLS club finally came true on March 1 when Inter Miami took to the field in Los Angeles as they faced LAFC. All the years of disappointment and hard work were set to culminate in a party in Fort Lauderdale at the brand new Inter Miami CF Stadium on Saturday.\nThat's now officially off the table and David and Victoria Beckham both took to social media to address their fans.\nDavid Beckham posted an image on his Instagram showing the inside of the stadium where a billboard reads: "Welcome To Inter Miami CF Stadium." They've been spotted all over — enjoying the state's beaches, water parks, and nightlife.\nInter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas also made a statement about the team's delayed homecoming, promising fans it's still on the way.\n"We are targeting 30 days, which means Inter Miami will not be playing its home opener on Saturday," he told the Miami Herald. "We were 48 hours from kickoff, expecting a full house, and there was a lot of excitement. That won’t change. It will just be on a different day and date."
