Atlanta's Afropunk Festival In October Is Going To Be An Afrofuturistic Wonderland
Atlanta's Earth Gang and Danny Brown are on the lineup!
The Black community is such a huge part of Atlanta culture and the positive movements are continually growing. The African spirit is kept alive through tons of the Black-centric events and movements throughout the city. The best ones include all the good music which is a big part of the culture that brings people together. The Afropunk Festival in Atlanta is a massive and ever-popular celebration that will return this October and it will be bigger than ever.
Afropunk is an organization created to provide a creative space to take collective action toward enhancing and redefining the future of African culture in America, both individually and as a group. The activism-based brand strives to make a difference in Afro-cultural topics like art, film, music, politics and business. Book your tickets (starting at $50) while you have the chance.
Afropunk's 4th Annual Atlanta Festival (which is also hosted in Brooklyn, London, Johannesburg and Paris) is an afrofuturism celebration that will be held on Oct. 12 and 13 in a Mechanicsville warehouse and studio.
There is an insane lineup of Black musical talent including Danny Brown, Earthgang and Anderson.Paak. You can let loose and get lost in a cultural immersion of loud music, celebrated culture, activism and a straight up good time.
This is also an awesome opportunity to express yourself by dressing up in extravagant costumes of bright colors and all the glitter, just like at this
The fun doesn't stop at good music. The carnival offers opportunities to make a difference and participate in the afro-cultural movement, including solution-discussion panels and The Grapevine’s panel-style online talk show that facilitates conversation around Afropunk’s ethos of resistance and cultural agitation. There will also be a battle of the bands, because who doesn't love healthy competition?
While you're lost in the Afrofuturism wonderland, check out the DIY-minded Spinthrift market for a variety of one-of-a-kind and bespoke items inspired by African art and textiles. You'll be able to purchase things like jewelry, natural beauty products and apparel. Come hungry because Bites & Beats Food Festival (an event within the event) offers international cuisine with food trucks and pop-up restaurants.
