It may be October, but SoCal has yet to cool down. To beat the 85 and sunny heat and hair-frizzing humidity, we’ve found the best hidden waterfalls in southern California

You’ll find Bonita Falls Trail tucked away in the San Bernardino National Forest. If you’ve been seeking out an easy hike during the heatwave, you’re in luck.

It’s only 2 miles roundtrip and is suitable for moderate hiking levels.

To get there, you’ll get off Interstate 15 at Sierra Avenue. Drive under the freeway pass onto Lytle Creek Road. You’ll stay here for about five miles before the turn-off.

Since there aren’t many signs indicating where to go, you’ll have to be watchful. If you reach the main town, you’ve gone too far.

Bonita Falls flows as a set of streaming waterfalls in the forest, formed by the scenic Bonita Creek. The longest drop in the waterfall measures a shocking 195 feet!

From the base of the falls, you can expect to see 90 feet of streaming waterfall glory. Getting there has just as much allure as the falls themselves.

Since there is no paved trail, you’ll be climbing over rocks through the forest.

You’ll feel like Indiana Jones on a quest. Some hikers have even seen Bighorn Sheep there.

It’s easy to get lost if you don’t know the way, so make sure to travel in a group with your friends.

You’ll start the hike at a small river crossing. From there, you’ll reach a dry rock wash that you can walk on almost the whole way. There isn’t any shade, so bring sunglasses, sunscreen, light clothes, and plenty of water.

To find the falls, keep to the left. The waterfall will be on a small unpaved trail on the left-hand side.

After walking about 0.7 miles, you’ll reach a short path heading up the mountain. There’s lots of graffiti nearby. The track will take you up the incline and to the smaller falls.

Continue to find the bigger ones. They’re worth the wait!

Since the water at the base of the falls is pretty shallow, you can’t swim in it. But it’s perfect for cooling down and taking some fun Instagram pics.
