As temperatures keep rising in Florida, it becomes more tempting to stay indoors. Thankfully, there are many indoor activities you can do with your family in Jacksonville, some of which are completely free! The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens is one of these places and it has the finest art collections and an enchanting garden center.

For the art-seeker and nature enthusiast, this museum offers visitors world-class art spanning from 2100 B.C. through the 21st century. A visit to this museum will expose you to more than 5,000 objects which will give you a diverse and global interpretation of art. The museum often features exhibits to the public and it is home to the Wark Collection of Early Meissen Porcelain.

Guests can immerse and admire the seminal work from Monet to Matisse and explore French, American, and Mediterranean art. Free museum days are available for guests each Tuesday from 4 pm to 9 pm. College students get free admission Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm.

Even though you are not into art, the museum also offers a delightful landscape and architecture surrounded by 2.5 acres of 20th century history. Through seven different garden visitors can explore reflecting pools, fountains, arbors, antique ornaments, and sculptures.

One of the oldest oak trees in Jacksonville resides in the gardens boasting 150 feet of majestic branches. You can take a stroll through the Italian Garden which was built in 1932 or enjoy the unique sculptures at the Sculpture Garden. If a trip to Tuscany is not possible, these gardens will give you a glimpse of Italian culture.

The museum is open Tuesday from 10 am to 9 pm, Wednesday-Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday from 12 pm to 4 pm. Regular admission price is $10 per person.
