When you're planning you're NOLA trip, we know exactly where you're going to go. There are a few areas that everyone just loves in New Orleans and the areas "reserved" for tourists will definitely deliver on what you're expecting. However, in a city where walking the streets with an open container of alcohol is completely normal, we're sure you're going to want to explore the paths less traveled. These 7 hidden things to do in New Orleans will give you a more "behind the scenes" look of what this city has to offer.

Mahony’s

Price: 💸

Cuisine: Cajun

Address: 3454 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA, 70115 & 901 Iberville Street, New Orleans, LA, 70112

Why You Need To Go: This small eatery has the best, award-winning po'boys that can seriously go head-to-head with the best places in the state. The brick-and-mortar locations (Uptown and French Quarter) looks like someone's front porch so they're super easy to miss, but trust us, you want to find this spot and definitely get your fill of po'boy goodness.

The Singing Oak

Price: Free

Address: 1701 Wisner Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124

Why You Need To Go: If you were passing City Park, you would notice the 14-foot-tall Oak tree standing next to Big Lake (can't miss any of it), but you wouldn't know that this particular oak actually sings. Louisiana artist Jim Hart strung wind chimes to various branches on the tree and when the wind blows they "sing" a beautiful song.

Why You Need To Go: Only 20 minutes outside of NOLA, you'll be able to see floating cabins on this picture perfect marsh landscape. This is perfect if you're a nature lover and looking to get a feel of the outdoors and get away from the noisy city. The South has some of the best state parks with incredible views so you'll want to find this place.

Why You Need To Go: This hidden restuarant is in the middle of the Bayou Bonfouca and is completely surrounded by canopy trees. Finding the spot is a fun, scenic adventure that will end with crazy good cajun eats.

Old Point Bar

Price: 💸

Address: 545 Patterson Street Algiers Point, New Orleans, LA 70114

Why You Need To Go: Most tourists don't make it to this hidden bar because you have to take a ferry to get to it. Only minutes from the French Quarter, but to get here you have to know what you're looking for. Super chill vibes, live music and the cocktails are made with love.

M.S. Rau Antiques

Price: Free

Address: 630 Royal Street, New Orleans, LA 70130

Why You Need To Go: This lowkey antique shop has a "secret room" in the back. If you go and ask to see the secret room, you will be led to a hidden door that leads to a room filled with beautiful art and artifacts with so much history. If you're rolling in cash, you can even buy some because it will definitely cost BANK.
