Key West Is Actually Hosting A Mystical Mermaid Festival This Summer
Nothing like a mermaid tail.
Key West, the southernmost point in the US, should become a must-visit destination for your next getaway. And if you need an excuse, the first-annual Key West Mermaid Festival will bring mythology and fantasy into one Key West venue.
This festival is a family-friendly event designed to celebrate mermaid culture while raising awareness for ocean conservation and swimming safely with mermaid tails. The Key West Mermaid Festival will take place all over the island from July 5-7th. The full list of events is here!
If you believe in these magical creatures, get ready to embrace your mermaid personality. The festival will feature local art, live music and community spirit all over the island! Guests will have the opportunity to celebrate a mermaid-themed weekend of shopping, artist pop-ups, live mermaid paintings, notable mermaid appearances, swimming with mermaids, airbrushing, face painting, food, drinks and live entertainment guaranteed to shake guests’ tails and flip their fins.
And let's be honest. Most of us wish we were mermaids and sing under the sea.
Guests will also see mermaids wearing long tailfins and lots of mermaid-themed vendors. The festival's proceeds will benefit the marine conservation efforts of Reef Relief, a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to improving and protecting Key West’s coral reefs. The Key West Mermaid Festival hopes to draw attention to attendees on the importance of water safety.
This whimsical festival will bring notable artists and vendors, such as the artist behind the series of mermaid art titled “The Mischievous Mermaid”, airbrush artist Bruce Yodanis, who utilizes colorful hues to create his marine life inspired pieces, Lance Berry, who brings the sea to canvas with his oceanic and Key West inspired acrylic paintings, and more.
Also, there will be live mermaid muses interacting with visitors. One of the events will have a food truck located on Sunset Green serving “conch-fusion” small bites and tapas-style cuisine inspired by Key West’s Cuban, Bahamian, Caribbean and Floridian roots.
