We wouldn't say aspiring to be a pirate as a kid is "bad," but aspiring to be a criminal mastermind of the sea is a bit different than wanting to be a lawyer, doctor or astronaut. In any case, we're adults now, and we will never be too old to play dress-up from time to time. You can test out your cosplay skills while partying and drinking at The Pirate Fest coming to Georgia this October

This will be the 15th Annual Tybee Island Pirate Fest happening October 10 through 13. While we love Tybee every other month during the year for their pink and baby blue mermaid cottages and cool dolphin tours, during October the island goes all out to make the Halloween month extra special and interactive. The Pirate Fest is a four day extravaganza of pirate hats, sword swinging, beer slunging and taking amazing selfies with live cosplaying mermaids.

The festival technically starts with the Buccaneer Ball which will take place Thursday, Oct. 10 for all the treasure hunters to eat (or grub and grog) with all the other pirates and wenches hanging out for the weekend. The ball will be hosted at The Crab Shack, so you can be sure the food is going to be (appropriately) nautically-themed. They will also crown a King and Queen so why not throw your own name in the pirate hat?

Unfortunately the tickets for Buccaneer Ball are separate from the official festival, but they're only $40 to $50 depending on when you buy. The early bird tickets are $40 until Aug. 31 and goes up to $45 Sept. 1, so grab them like now.

Friday actually starts the festival around 5:00 p.m. You have the entire island to enjoy the pirate-y vibes, but the locations participating on the themed weekend will be Thieves and Gypies Market (an outdoor bazaar full of hidden treasures); Little Matey's Cove (for the kiddies) and the Whatever Bar sponsored by Bud Light (fully stocked bar and all the free swag).

Through the weekend you're going to want to find the main stage to see live music and performances scheduled to take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There are even top secret performances in the works.

On Saturday, around 3 p.m. will commence the biggest highlight of the weekend, the Pirate Victory Parade. The parade will start at North Beach and continue on to Tybrisa Street with dancing, loud music and all the free treasures and jewels you can carry.

Sunday will be for all the vendors who will be selling all cool souvenirs for pirate participants. This is going to be a huge festival on an island for a full weekend, and also, mermaids. While you pace yourself to drink like a sailor-turned-pirate in October, you have to go to the 3-day Shrimp & Grits Festival and the Atlanta Rosé Festival, both in September.
