As soon as the temperatures drop below 75 degrees in Georgia, it's time to start breaking out those leggings and spending a lot more outside basking in the cooler air. While taking the time to explore the lush Peace State landscapes, a trip to North Georgia might be a good idea. And if you're looking for places to explore in Georgia, Sweetwater Creek State Park is the place to go to view beautiful fall foliage and to see a few scenes from a famous movie.

Sweetwater Creek is located in Lithia Springs, Georgia, just a few minutes from the heart of Atlanta. It encompasses about 2,549 acres, leaving plenty of scenic beauty for you to explore here.

There are 15 miles of trails you can wind through, but the shortest trail will take you through a wooded forest and to an ancient mill that was used hundreds of years ago.

Aside from being a must-see state park, some of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 was filmed in this very location. The Civil-War mill's ruins served as the ruins of the series' District 13.

Taking the Red (History) Trail will be your best option if you want to see everything this park has to offer in under three miles.

The Red Trail is only two miles round-trek. You'll spend around an hour or two each way, which is just long enough for a perfect adventure and short enough not to take up your whole day.

The first half of the trail will take you to the ruins. You can't explore inside, but you can take a walk around the outside of it and snap some photos.

The last half of the trail will take you to the actual Sweetwater Creek. It might get a little difficult to hike through as once you get closer to the creek, the rockier it gets.

You can take a break at the water's edge before you turn around and head back to the trailhead. There are plenty of boulders to hang out on and spots to dip your feet in the water while you soak up all the nature views.

You can get a nice history lesson, a good workout in, and see where Katniss Everdeen once was all at this one Georgia state park.
