You may have had the chance to see Venus flytraps at a floral shop or home improvement store, but did you know they are only native to Wilmington, NC? You can actually get up close and personal with tons of these carnivorous creatures. You can feed your curiosity and observe them in their exclusive natural habitat at this botanical garden in North Carolina. Although these botanical wonders may seem alien to most, they call the South their home. These oddities become a little less rare as you venture through one of North Carolina's most well-known beach towns. According to a WECT article, the protected plant only grows within a 75-mile radius around Wilmington. One of the most popular places to observe these crazy botanical gems in their rawest element is at Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden at Piney Ridge Nature Preserve. The garden, owned by Oleander Company and leased to the City of Wilmington, is protected by the Coastal Land Trust. Lucky for Carolina dwellers and tourists alike, this park is open year-round to the public. During this free experience, you may even get lucky enough to see what these magical wetland natives do best: trap a fly. The guided trails and wooden overlooks surround wide open space that leads you through a fairytale adventure. View this post on Instagram Oh wow! The Venus Flytrap in it’s native habitat.
