There is an endless paradise of white sands less than an hour from El Paso. You can explore this magical place at any time, but it is at night when things reach the next level. At White Sands National Monument, the stunning white sand dunes near El Paso, you can see the stars, meteor showers, and the full moon with a splendor that you never thought possible.

This huge field of dunes as white as the sands of a Caribbean beach is one of the world's natural wonders.

With its 275 square miles of land, this desert is considered the largest field of gypsum dunes (that explains the color), a true gem that belongs to the state of New Mexico, but is treasured for all the United States.

There are several ways to explore the dunes. One of them is hiking to enjoy the silence and solitude of this particular place. You can also take the Dunes Drive, and drive the 8 miles of unforgettable landscapes that await you, it will take you about 45 minutes.

Other activities such as horse riding, bike tours, or gliding through the dunes are also allowed in the park. Have a picnic in the area of your choice is another thing you can do.

Beyond regular activities, the terrain conditions at White Sands National Monument allow seeing the stars, or any astronomical phenomenon, to be a memorable experience.

In fact, sighting events are scheduled such as parties to watch meteor showers or full moon nights. You can be aware of the events on their Facebook page.

If you want to live the stargazing experience, you must camp in the dunes. You can obtain the necessary permission at the offices of the Visitor Center of the monument between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The cost is $ 3.00 per person over the age of 16 and $1.50 for those aged 15 or less. You must bring all your food and especially water because that won't be available anywhere.

Of course, always be careful when camping in this natural wonder because it is easy to get lost and GPS does not work in the area. Pets are also allowed on a leash.

The idea when camping in these types of places is to leave no trace that we were there, so always pick up the trash before you leave.

Also, the whole desert area is surrounded by an active missile test zone, so if you find any foreign object, do not touch it and notify the monument workers.
