Florida has plenty of lighthouses to visit, but most of them don't let visitors up to the top. The St. Augustine Lighthouse is one of the few that visitors can climb and admire the surroundings from several stories up. According to the information made public on the lighthouse's official website, "the Lighthouse is St. Augustine's oldest surviving brick structure and today the site is restored to colors and materials used the year 1888. At the top, the original, first-order Fresnel lens still serves the beacon." Not only is the lighthouse historic, but it is also one of the best places to get a good view of the local surroundings like never before. However, this may not be an excursion for those with a fear of heights; the lighthouse rises 165 feet above sea level and if you would like to have a view from the top platform you will have to climb 219 narrow steps.
