You Can Visit An Old West Town In Arizona That's Overrun With Donkeys
There are new sheriffs in town and they have four legs.
If going on a road trip adventure isn't your first rodeo then you're in luck. There's an old west town in Arizona, where gunfights are normal and donkeys roam the streets.
Oatman, Arizona is an old west mining town on the old Route 66 highway. Upon entering the town, you'll notice that the streets are filled with donkeys, who might be the new sheriffs in town. Some people may call them burros, which is just the Spanish term for "donkey." They are one and the same.
The donkeys are wild, mostly friendly, and hungry. Many of the shops around the town will sell burro food, so that you can feed any hungry donkey that comes your way. Burro food will cost about $1 per bag, and each bag is filled with hay cubes.
You might even see some babies roaming around too. It's possible to see a sign on them that says do not feed. With all wild animals, it's best to appreciate them from a distance as they might bite, so plan accordingly.
This old west town will seem out of an old western movie. The dirt roads and wooden sidewalks add to the western charm. During the day, you'll even be able to witness staged gunfights and bank robberies.
The best time to visit here is during the fall, winter, and spring when the weather isn't so hot. Since this quaint little town is filled with donkeys, it might be difficult to find parking and the donkeys will make it hard for you to drive, as they all want food.
There are also so many cute little shops around selling a wide range of items. From prickly pear gummies to homemade chocolate fudge, you could spend hours exploring all the shops.
The locals are friendly and will even give you a little slice of history to take home. Before you leave, you can stop by the Oatman Hotel and indulge in some yummy BBQ food. It's only about a 2-hour drive away from Las Vegas.
If you're looking for an epic road trip adventure from Phoenix to Las Vegas, you can. It will take you to some of the best places around.
