Breakups suck. There's honestly no other way to put it. Even though this is so annoying to hear, it's a part of life and it really does make you stronger. However, the first few days, weeks and even months can feel absolutely miserable. Especially if you were the one that got dumped.

Even if you were the dumper, no breakup is ever easy and no breakup ever comes without feelings of complete sadness. But what's the best way to distract yourself? Well, good friends that will stay in with you and eat pizza, ice cream and watch sad movies. Because who wants to watch happy movies when you're sad?!

The best kinds of movies to watch after a breakup are the ones where the person comes out on the other side of darkness. There are so many movies that have a happy ending when the whole movie is sad, and that's exactly what you need right now. If you just got dumped, were the dumper, or it was completely mutual, you need to watch these X movies:

1. Forgetting Sarah Marshall

The ultimate 'I found better than what I had' movie. If you're worried about never finding someone else again, which you will, just go to Hawaii to forget about them! Just kidding, but going on a trip right after a breakup does sound amazing.

2. John Tucker Must Die

This is a story about finding good friends through a shitty time. There's a theory that you lose at least 2 good friends every time you enter a relationship, but you can also gain better friends too. This is the ultimate girl power movie, and a f*ck you to every guy that's ever cheated on you.

3. The Pursuit of Happyness

Don't feel like you'll ever be happy, successful or get through a hard time? This movie proves you wrong. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel and even if you can't see it now, work on yourself and it will happen for you.

Trying to improve your life? You don't have to do that after a breakup, but in order to find love, you have to be happy with yourself. That's what Bridget Jones's Diary is about and basically how to get through life while everyone but you seems to be finding love.

5. The Perks of Being a Wallflower

This is a coming-of-age movie as well as a first-love movie, which a ton of us can relate to after breaking up with your first love who you thought you'd be with forever. The famous quote "We accept the love we think we deserve" is so true while going through any stage of a relationship.

6. The Break-Up

This is a movie about a couple that breaks up, but neither of them wants to move out of their shared home. They continue to be roommates, but it definitely resonates with those who live with their ex, or who have to move out soon because of the breakup. It's not easy breaking up, but it's even harder when you have to see them every single day.

7. Legally Blonde

Legally Blonde is the ultimate 'break-up, feel sad, find yourself, and now I'm way better off' movie. If you get your heartbroken out of nowhere, that's not always a bad thing. It can lead you to other amazing things, like law school and an even hotter bae.

8. Safe Haven

This is more of a serious movie, as it has to do with an abusive relationship. However, it still shows that you can come out even stronger on the other side and you don't have to be scared anymore. Everything happens for a reason.

9. The Women

This is a story about how a group of friends come together to help one of their friends after she finds out her husband is cheating on you. The ultimate BFF, 'I'll always be here for you' movie. If you feel like you're always alone, you're not! Your friends are always there.

10. Eat Pray Love

Travelling after a breakup can seriously mend a broken heart. Eating good food, whether you're alone or with a friend, you get a different perspective on things. That's what this movie is about, and she travels after her perfect life turns sour. Only, she finds a better life while travelling.

11. Begin Again

Just when you think you have it all together, everything changes. You can move for your significant other, only to break up. Then what do you do? This is the perfect movie to show that everything happens for a reason, and even though one thing didn't work out doesn't mean it all won't.

12. 500 Days of Summer

This is the ultimate breakup movie. After his girlfriend randomly dumps him, he starts to think back on their 500 days together to see where the relationship went wrong. This is a great movie to watch for a girl or a guy who has just been dumped, because you always come out stronger in the end.

13. The Holiday

14. Titanic

Not exactly a breakup movie, but it's one that will for sure make you cry. If you need a good cry and a good distraction after a breakup, I suggest watching Titanic.

15. He's Just Not That Into You

Okay, this movie will make you realize that if someone really wanted to be with you, they would be. You deserve the love you give to other people, and it will come. Also, don't chase people! This is one of my favs for if I'm ever doubting a situation, it puts you in the right headspace.

16. P.S. I Love You

Also not a breakup movie, but man, this movie will make you cry. It also makes you realize that you can find love anywhere, especially when you're not looking for it. And even if it doesn't work out, you'll be fine. Oh, and another movie that proves your friends are the best through hard times.

17. Under The Tuscan Sun

This movie is for anyone who has been cheated on and felt like they were stuck. In this movie, to get her out of her depression, her friends encourage her to tour Italy. She ends up starting a new life there, and the rest is history. You don't have to move to get over something, but in this case, it worked.

18. The Bucket List

Not a breakup movie either, but one that says you can do anything you set your mind to. Just because you're going through a hard time doesn't mean you don't have to live life. Going through a hard time should make you want to live life more!

19. The Fault in Our Stars

Not a breakup movie, but it's also about losing your first love. There is no heartbreak like your first, and this movie will show you that. No matter what your circumstances, you can get through anything. Even if it hurts like hell!
