We're still reeling from the announcement last week that a Gossip Girl reboot is currently in the works. When everyone else was watching the Super Bowl this weekend, we may or may not have binged on old episodes of our fave teen drama. Spoiler Alert: Gossip Girl is just as good the second (or third or FOURTH) time around. As much as we love reruns thought, sometimes ya just wanna watch something new. For a fresh binge, check out these seven shows to watch on Netflix while you wait for the Gossip Girl reboot.
It pains us to say this, but we might be waiting for new Gossip Girl for a while. Even though CW president Mark Pedowitz said a discussion "is happening" and Blake Lively has teased the possibility of a reunion, there's still no telling when we're actually going to get new episodes. *Sigh* Instead of hating the waiting game, we're embracing it and finding new shows on Netflix like Gossip Girl to fall in love with. Fans of Serena and the rest of the Gossip Girl gang will ~*totally die for*~ these shows on Netflix.
Like Gossip Girl, Riverdale had its first home on the CW Television Network before moving to Netflix. But, instead of the big city, Riverdale takes place in a small town. The show follows Archie Andrews and Veronic Lodge as they deal with the mystery surrounding the death of their classmate Jason Blossom.
Degrassi: Next Class
We love Degrassi because this show is not afraid to tackle the tough issues. Being a teenager isn't all prom dresses and Friday Night football games! As with the other series in the franchise, Degrassi: Next Class covers serious situations affecting high schoolers like drug abuse, mental health, and sexuality.
Gossip Girl's Dan Humphrey (played by Penn Badgley) shares a few qualities with YOU's Joe Goldberg. For starters, they both overanalyze like it's going style. But, even though Dan is intense, we think Joe might have him beat.
13 Reasons Why
Like Gossip Girl, 13 Reasons Why is based on a book. The show starts with the discovery of a box of cassette tapes. The recordings detail why high schooler Hannah Baker decided to commit suicide. Prior to her death, Hannah made not only the tapes but also a plan so that every person involved in her life that contributed to her suicide will hear them. Heavy stuff, but nearly 80 percent of viewers liked it, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
Obviously, money doesn't solve everything because even heiresses have problems. Fallon Carrington doesn't like the woman her billionaire dad is engaged to marry, so she fashions a plan to split them up. Is Fallon just acting like a spoiled brat, or is her father's fiance (whose last hubby died under suspicious circumstances) really someone to worry about?
Take Gossip Girl and fling it across the ocean. Baby is about the secret lives of two Italian girls enrolled at one of Rome's most elite private high schools. Friendship drama, family drama, romance drama: Baby has all the drama you could ever need.
Pretty Little Liars
If you haven't seen Pretty Little Liars yet, the time is now to binge on this OG teen drama. Everything is all fine and dandy for this little group of high school girls until the leader of their clique disappears. A year after she goes missing, the friends reunite when they start receiving mysterious texts. Someone named "A" is threatening to reveal their deepest, darkest secrets.
