Canada is currently getting one of the worst winters in history: We're being battered by snow storms, kept indoors by bone-chillingly cold weather and have more icy temperatures on the way.

Luckily, our homes are heated and our beds are warm - and most of us plan on hibernating underneath the covers for the next three months. If you're looking to keep warm all winter long and have no interest in leaving your bedroom, you're in luck. Netflix is currently rife with great shows to binge-watch all season long.

Here are some of the best series you can watch this winter:

Peaky Blinders

If you're into sharply dressed British gangsters and 1920s crime dramas, you're going to love Peaky Blinders. The series, set in Birmingham, England, centres on a notorious gang who sew razor blades in the peaks of their caps, led by their fierce boss Tommy Shelby, who wants to move up in the world.

Manhunt: Unabomber

This miniseries tells the story of the FBI's hunt for the Unabomber in the 1990s. It's full of action, crime and sitting-at-the-end-of-your-seat scenes.

The Toys That Made Us

This relatively new series follows the minds behind some of history's most iconic toy franchises as they discuss the rise - and occasional fall - of their billion-dollar creations.

Shameless

Shameless benefits from the perverse times we're living in. A single father of six, played by Oscar-nominated actor William H. Macy, spends much of his free time drinking at bars. The Gallagher children - led by oldest daughter Fiona (Emmy Rossum), who takes on much of the child-rearing responsibility due to her mother's absence.

Lovesick

Lovesick is the ultimate sex-positive rom-com you haven't been watching, but absolutely need to. Basically, one guy gets diagnosed with chlamydia, and must inform all of his previous sexual partners that they may have been exposed to the disease. It's a fun spin on general life and love, and with three seasons, you'll have lots to catch up on.

Planet Earth

Narrated by British legend David Attenborough, Planet Earth was the beginning of every great nature show. Five years in the making, it was the most expensive nature documentary series ever commissioned by the BBC and also the first to be filmed in high definition.

Planet Earth II

Planet Earth II makes its predecessor look like it was filmed on a potato. The new series of the show makes ground-breaking discovery using top-of-the line equipment while shooting never-before-seen behaviours in nature. This show is a must watch.

Great World Hotels

It's not the best show, but there's stunning shots of tropical resort getaways and breathtaking beach views. If you're looking for mind-numbing TV to just sit and eat to, Great World Hotels is it. It's the perfect escape from Canada's cold winter.

Homeland

Most people have heard of Homeland, but if you haven't, you need to start watching it. The show has a whopping six episodes to go through, so you can rest assured that you won't have to get out of bed any time soon.
