As thrilling and exciting as action and adventure movies can be, it's definitely a bit disheartening when so many of them are dominated by leading men, rather than leading ladies. We want to see badass women drive fast cars and chase after villains too! It seems as though our cries are being heard in 2019 though because an all-female Fast and Furious spin-off is in the works.
OG Fast and Furious star, Vin Diesel, took to Instagram on January 23rd to share the photo above. The caption on the photo reads, "As you know, there are three new spin-offs that We have promised Universal... well this week we heard a pitch for the Fast female protagonist driven spinoff I created in 2017, and you can tell by the smile on Samantha’s face it was VERY exciting. Shout out to Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Welcome to the Fast FAMILY...".
Although exact details have yet to be confirmed, it's likely that the film would centre around the original series' female protagonist Letty, played by Michelle Rodriguez. Other big female names that have been associated with the film include Eva Mendes, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Gal Gadot, among others.
One thing's for sure - whatever the plot of this movie ends up to be, it's going to be seriously memorable. With two other Fast and Furious spin-offs also in the works, it's definitely going to be a big year for the franchise.
