For decades now, the performative art of drag has been entertaining people in bars and clubs, on stage, and on TV. One of the most popular drag artists in the game is none other than RuPaul Andre Charles, the creator of the popular reality television series, RuPaul's Drag Race. Despite staying booked and busy, the drag mogul has another new project on the way. AJ and The Queen on Netflix Canada stars RuPaul like you've never seen him before.

Earlier today, Netflix released a teaser trailer for an upcoming series called AJ and The Queen. The show stars RuPaul as Ruby Red, a drag queen who's been on an unfortunate unlucky streak as of late.

In order to keep the money coming in, Ruby Red travels all across the country, performing different gigs with an 11-year-old orphan named AJ in tow.

When not in drag, Ruby Red goes by the name of Robert Lee, a man who has dreams of opening up his own club so he can stop performing. Just as these dreams are about to come true, though, Lee is swindled out of all his money, forcing him to head out on a tour across the U.S. again.

The series was written by RuPaul himself, along with Michael Patrick King who also penned Sex and the City. Because he does so much reality TV work with Drag Race, RuPaul was incredibly excited for his role in the comedy series.

"My character parents an 11-year-old child, so I was able to really emotionally revisit myself as a kid. It was a trip. I’ve never done anything like that before. It was the most challenging thing for me as an actor and as a human,” he told Interview earlier this year.

This year has been a big one for RuPaul — a few months back he announced that Drag Race would be getting a Canadian spinoff, making his fans in the north incredibly excited.

AJ and The Queen will be coming to Netflix on January 10, 2020. You can check out the teaser trailer for the new series below.
